Q.
Dear Coach:
“How
can I better organize and keep track of my marketing
activities so that I implement them more consistently?”
Signed,
Inconsistently Yours
A.
Dear Inconsistently Yours:
Great
Question! An easy way is to develop a monthly
marketing calendar . With a marketing calendar,
you will know what marketing activities need to be
done, by whom, and by when. So what should you include
on your marketing calendar?
Include important dates for creating and sending out
your mailers
What networking events you would like to attend
Include client lunches and what you want to talk about
Deadlines for placing ads
Daily client contacts
Post your marketing calendar in your office and other
places you are likely to see it. One client puts her
marketing calendar in a clear Lucite stand that she
puts on her desk where she is sure to see it. A further
upgrade is to put all your marketing activities in your
Palm Pilot or Daily Scheduler. So, plan your work (with
your monthly marketing calendar) and work your plan!
Q.
Dear Coach:
I
feel like I don't have any time for myself – I always
seem to be doing work. What do you suggest?
Signed,
Getting Burned Out
A.
Dear Getting Burned Out:
Get
a Life! Create some healthy boundaries for yourself.
Your clients will respect the boundaries you set if
they know ahead of time what they are. If you respect
your own value and time, they will too! Here are a
few suggestions.
Many of the Real Estate agents that I work with choose
to turn their business phones off at 7:00 p.m. (unless
they have a pending offer). They then record a message
stating that they will return calls first thing the
next morning – which they promptly do.
Another boundary is to include taking an hour for
exercise every day, you will feel better, have more
energy and give your self-esteem a shot in the arm.
Take at least one day off during the week. Relax don't
look at houses, don't scour the classifieds – don't
even watch home improvement shows!
Schedule regular vacations.
Life
is a drag without boundaries. So take control of your
time and your actions!
